Living Music in the Home’s newest course – exclusive to LMH and Earthschooling – offers instruction on playing the kinderlyre that will help parents and teachers incorporate this beautiful instrument into their daily routine, not only for the purpose of teaching music, but also for creating a mood at times of transition, rest, or throughout the day. The course teaches the all the essential basics of playing the kinderlyre, but also addresses helpful logistical concerns like choosing a good instrument, tuning, and understanding the anatomy of the instrument. Parents and teachers will also learn to combine playing and singing and learn useful songs in the mood of the fifth for various parts of the daily routine.
ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTORS: Michelle and Dan Prindle founded Living Music in the Home in 2014 to help teachers and homeschooling parents bring living music into their homes and classrooms. The couple met in high school and their relationship was musical from the very beginning. They were cast opposite each other in the school production of Fiddler on the Roof as Motel and Tzeitel (who get married in the show). Their lifelong love of music eventually found a counterpart in a love of Waldorf Education. Living Music in the Home brings these passions together, creating a program that is deeply rooted in a rich musical tradition and a wealth of experience in education. Between them, the couple has a combined 58 years of musical training, a combined 30 years of educational experience, two Bachelor’s degrees in music, a Waldorf early-childhood certification, and a Music Theory Master’s degree with a Ph.D. on the way. Their passion is bringing music to children, especially their three little ones, who are all under the age of ten.
