Children learn about the uses of the herb through reading the fairytale or having the fairytale read to them. They also learn about wet-on-wet watercolor techniques. Author Kristie Burns hired the fifth- and sixth- graders at The Four Winds Waldorf School in Warrenville, Illinois to create paintings for her book of herbal fairy tales and to provide a fund-raising project for their class. You can use these books and the paintings to guide you through a lesson with your own children or you can read these books to younger children during story time. Pictures are provided from the entire class so you can see the wide range of interpretations that are possible.
