Description
In this block we will explore graphs, business math, beginning algebra, exchange, estimation, and formulas for area and volume. This block also includes the breathtaking “Divisions of a Circle” form drawing/math lessons and “How to Start a Business for Kids”. As a bonus we have also included a video that shows how to teach the Six Divisions of a Circle Lesson.

Ancient Romans did not use modern symbolic algebra. Their mathematics was highly practical, relying on a system where letters represented specific values. For complex computations and trade, they used the portable Roman abacus instead of a written algebraic system. However, the abacus relates to algebra by translating abstract concepts like variables, equations, and operations into tangible, spatial movements. Just as algebra balances equations, the physical operations of moving beads on an abacus build a foundational understanding of quantity, grouping, and algebraic balancing. As we explore Roman history this month, think about how our modern mathematical systems relate to theirs.
