Question: What kind of parent involvement is needed for the Living Lessons? – Kaela
Answer: Thank you for your question. This is a great question and really varies for each family, and even by the day within each family.
The original purpose of the Living Lessons is to provide a teacher for the student so they can watch the lessons each day and follow along. The student is given assignments and is also expected to do some work on their own. There are Living Lessons for the main lessons, handwork, music, and eurythmy. Ideally, a parent would just check in on the student and…
-
Make sure the student has watched the lesson(s) for the day.
-
Make sure the student is doing the work for the lesson by asking them what it is.
-
Asking the student to see their Main Lesson Book either daily or weekly to make sure they are completing lessons and you are both happy with the work.
The parent does not need to be involved beyond this point. However, parents use the lessons in many different ways. Here are some of the ways parents we know have used the lessons:
-
A few families have set up their student with their own account and only check on them a couple of times a month.
-
Some parents watch the lessons with the student and discuss them.
-
Some parents watch the lessons and then teach them to the student so the student does not watch the video.
-
Some parents/teachers will teach a lesson and then use the videos as enrichment
-
Some parents/teaches will only use the videos as an emergency resource.
-
All families use a combination of 1-5.
