Tuesday Tip: Flatter Yourself

These short thoughts/tips are meant to be a brief and efficient way to offer a quick touch of inspiration for the day.

Flatter Yourself

Choose clothes and colors that are flattering for you. Make an effort and your body and mind will follow. Studies show that what we wear impacts our mood and self confidence.

I used to get teased so for many years as a teen for being skinny so I would wear baggy clothes. When I became pregnant with my first child I did the same thing. But baggy clothes won’t hide bony elbows or a pregnant belly. They are just baggy clothes.

I look back on old photos and realize I often looked messy or careless which was not my intention at all. Of course baggy clothes can be a style – there is nothing wrong with that!

However, one benefit of living in today’s modern world is that there are actually clothes created to flatter every body type. There are fashion lines specifically designed to flatter the teenage body and there are fashion lines intended to flatter the full figured body and everything in between. In this photo I’m wearing a dress by which suits my body type right now but would have looked a bit bulky on my small teenage frame. All you need to do is search and you will find your ideal clothes.

It may take some time but that’s OK. Take note of what colors, shapes, designs and styles are most suited to you. Show your pride in your body rather than trying to hide it.

Remember that what you wear does have an impact on your mood. And don’t forget there are some amazing clothes at Goodwill and other places if you are on a budget. And please donate your gently used clothing to a women’s shelter or other worthy cause. If you are on a journey that includes weight loss many of your clothes may have been worn only once.
