We were having trouble finding what we needed so we decided to create it ourselves. Then we decided to share it with others.
This passion for finding what we need and sharing it with others has been carried into our Living Lessons, now located at www.WaldorfSchoolOnline.com
More than 30 years ago we envisioned where we would be now. Our ideas were not possible back then. Video streaming was not very accessible for small companies and online lessons were only just starting to be accepted. However, we were determined to create a place where Waldorf education was accessible to everyone.
At the time my first child was just in infant, and we needed more than just ideas and information about Waldorf education. We needed more than a syllabus to tell us what to do. Our family wanted to see actual lesson plans, hear stories, and see teachers giving us examples. As a teacher, I wanted to have someone help me improve my art skills in the areas of wet-on-wet watercolor, chalk drawing, felting, and more.
Earthschooling started with lesson plans and slowly added videos and mp3s as modern technology caught up with our vision. Our Living Lessons at WaldorfSchoolOnline.com carry our dreams of what an online Waldorf education can be.
Waldorf School Online…
Authenticity
..retains the authenticity and magic of Waldorf education: Videos only contain what you need for information. Videos do not contain classroom interactions, or any extenders that will keep your student online longer than they need to be.
…is used by schools and teachers: Our curriculum is trusted by public and private Waldorf schools and teachers. Many of these schools and teachers around the world use our curriculum.
…is complete: We offer main lessons, music lessons, handwork classes, art enrichment, and eurythmy classes for your students at every age.
…gives you the option to become the teacher: Video lessons each come with a transcript so you, as the teacher, have the option to watch and learn. You could then teach students yourself using the transcript with the correct information and terminology you need for that lesson.
Accessibility
…allows you to download your lessons: We are the most accessible online Waldorf curriculum in the world. We realize that not everyone has access to high-speed Internet and that downloading videos is a necessity for many families, teachers, and schools.
…is accessible: We realize that everyone has different needs, ways of learning, and abilities. So, we provide videos with subtitles, mp3s and even transcripts of the same lesson. You can choose or mix-and-match what works best for you.
Diversity
…is international: We provide subtitles in Vietnamese, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, English, and more.
…is diverse: In all our lessons we speak to an International and diverse audience. For example, in the Fourth Grade Native Cultures Block, teacher Mellie covers Bedouin Tribes and The Australian Māori. She also provides lessons on Indigenous Canadians as well as Native American peoples.
…has teachers that are world travelers: In his Roman History block Mr. Andrea is able to speak first-hand about his trips to Rome. When he discusses volcanoes in the sixth-grade mineralogy block he talks about volcanoes he has actually seen. Ms. Stephanie is able to share some insights into her weather in Spain as she teaches the Meteorology Block. In her high school climatology class, Ms. Rachel takes students on a tour of the climate in Costa Rica where she lives!
Affordability
…is budget friendly: We offer lifetime access to all our lessons. If you have more than one student in your family you can use the lessons more than once. When you purchase something with us you own it. We don’t make you buy it again and again.
…offers enrichment beyond the classroom: All the video lessons come with a written curriculum that goes beyond the video experience. Our video lessons are complete, so you don’t need to use the written lessons. However, if you want to explore a block in more depth we have provided all the reading, lessons, images, and more for you to use.
Quality
…is taught to your child: Our teachers speak to your student directly through lessons recorded in a peaceful environment, undisturbed by classroom activities or online groups.
…does not contain fillers: Our lessons contain only what your student needs to learn. This allows your student(s) to go offline to complete tasks, read, absorb the materials, and be ‘one with nature’ instead of technology. We don’t add fillers to the lesson to “make it more like a real school” or “justify a high tuition cost.”
…provides transcripts and diplomas: We provide your student(s) with the documents they need once they complete our classes.
