#Earthschooling365: Day Thirty-Four
Inner Work Meditation (Heart): This hawk I saw today was a young hawk who was so worried about something else he didn’t even see me. He landed on a tree just above my head and proceeded to shriek. I am not sure what he was doing. He may have been hunting for food, trying to scare competitors away or simply communicating with another hawk. What I do know, is that he is lucky I was a friendly person. Because in “hawk language” he had compromised his safety in landing and sitting just above my head. How many times are we so focused on something we are occupied with that we don’t notice what is going on around us? Do you sometimes get preoccupied with a lesson you are teaching, point you are making or project you are creating that you don’t notice a sad partner, a lost child or a friend waiting to talk? Take some time today to pause more, look around you and make more observations about what is happening. Use this information to adjust your course in a healthy way.
Nature Walk Idea (Head): Today your assignment is to look up. Often on our nature walks we are looking at our own eye level so we miss things that are at other levels along our walk. Today take some time to look up into the sky and into the higher branches of the trees. What do you see? How is it different from what you usually see? Be careful to also watch where you are going. We have more nature walk ideas & complete academic lessons in our curriculum packages (pre-G8) including our April Preschool, Kindergarten or First Grade Curriculum.
Photography Notes (Hands): Your assignment for today is to take a photo of your subject doing something. This is not necessarily the same as the “taking a photo of action” assignment we had last month, although it could be the same. “Doing something” can be more subtle. For example, in the photos I took of the hawk he is not really moving a lot. He is not in action flying or swooping or attacking his prey. However, he is peeking around a corner, standing guard and shrieking. Photos are often more interesting when a subject is doing something in the photo.

Honking and squeaking like a toy
Astonishing sound for a bird so coy
Why do you sing such a silly song?
Keeking, Queeking, Ceekaling along
