#Earthschooling365: Day Thirty-Five
Inner Work Meditation (Heart): Yesterday we focused on looking up during our nature walks and today we are focusing on taking photos above our heads. Did you know that bringing your focus up can often have a calming or energizing effect on people? This is effective for many reasons. One reason is because we are often so distracted by the things around us that we need a break from the visions around us. A second reason is because changing our point of view can often cause us to pause and think more clearly. Yet a third reason is because looking to the sky can give us an energized feeling of freedom and space. Take some time during your inner work meditation today to simply look up at the sky or the ceiling of wherever you are. Use this technique with yourself or others during the day to calm, energize or distract.
Nature Walk Idea (Head): Yesterday we focused on looking up during our nature walk. Today we will focus on looking down. Be sure to watch where you are going but also try to spend as much time as possible looking down. What do you see on the ground as you walk? How is this experience different from your usual walk? Is it hard to keep looking down when you hear something in the trees above you? How focused can you stay on looking down? How many times did you look up (other than to make sure you were not running into someone)? (We have more nature walk ideas & complete academic lessons in our curriculum packages (pre-G8) including our April Preschool, Kindergarten or First Grade Curriculum).
Photography Notes (Hands): Yesterday, during our nature walk, we focused on looking at the world above our head. Today we will take this into the realm of photography by photographing things that are located above us. Today, focus only on taking photos of things, animals, birds and objects that are above you. Part of taking good photos is to be able to focus on one area at a time, and to be able to see the world in a different way. People usually look at the world from their own point of view. Show your viewers what the world would look like if they looked above their heads during their walk.
Verse: The Dainty Sparrow
Copyright Kristie Burns
There once was a sparrow from pine
Who thought he was quite divine
He could perch on a pin
Which was quite thin
And on gnats he always did dine
*These poems have been created for many purposes – from early childhood circle time verses to inspirational or expressive. They vary from day to day so you may find the way you use them or enjoy them also varies. If you would like to set these poems to music consider our tutorial: Creating Your Ow Waldorf Verses or Finding Your Inner Voice.
** Limerick: A fixed light-verse form of five lines rhyming AABBA. A metrical foot consisting of two unaccented syllables followed by an accented syllable. As with all poetry one can take some slight liberties with the format.
