#Earthschooling365: Day Fifty-Six
Inner Work Meditation (Heart): It’s been raining for two days now here so the deer, the birds and the rabbits have all managed to get wet. The deer hide under trees during the worst of the rain and the rabbits and other animals retreat to their burrows or nests. During the rain I rarely see any animals out in the open. However, after the rain they all emerge, as if by magic, from the trees and ground. The most amazing time to take a nature walk is right after it rains because all the life of the forest is out celebrating.
What do you do when it rains in your life? Sometimes we feel that we have to work through the rain. We have created both physical, spiritual and emotional “umbrellas” for rainy days. And sometimes these umbrellas are useful. But other times the best method is simply to take cover from the rain, wait it out, and come back when the sun is shining again. Take some time to look at a problem in your life you have been tackling lately. Which method have you been using? Has it been serving you well? If not, it might be time to switch methods. You can get a new umbrella, put the umbrella completely away or get the umbrella out.
Nature Walk Idea (Head): In the past I have always been a person that looks forward to spring. I love seeing the new flowers bloom, the new life emerge from the woods and the green all around me. However, as I have taken some more time to connect with the patterns of the woods around me these past few years I have come to also miss the winter and early spring days. For it is in winter, when the flowers and leaves are gone, that the mysteries of the forest are revealed. It is hard for animals to hide among trunks and sticks. The photos I took today are some of the last ones I may get of the deer in the woods. The deeper we get into spring and summer the more they will be hidden by the leaves and bushes around them. Today on your walk look make a list of animals or things you will not be able to see once summer comes. Will it be a building that is covered in vines? A log that is being taken over by wild mustard plants? A carving on a tree that will be soon hidden with leaves?
Photography Notes (Hands): Your assignment for today is to take a picture of something you will not be able to see in two weeks. Find a log, a tree, a house, a structure or an animal that will soon be hidden by the growth around it. Take your first photo today and remember where you stood to take that photo. Next, take the same exact photo every day for the next two weeks. This is a bit different from the assignment we did at the beginning of this project. For this assignment you need to pick something specifically that will be hidden.

A pretty young doe on a moat
Stood licking her brown wet fur coat
She licked it so hard
Her beauty was marred
‘Till she looked like an old mountain goat
