#Earthschooling365: Day Seventy-Eight
Inner Work Meditation (Heart): Today we will be meditating on our sense of hearing. Hearing goes beyond just being able to tell the difference between the sound of a piano and a cat’s meow. When you use your sense of hearing you are also sensing the vibrational tone that sounds make. Your sense of hearing can reveal a lot about an object. For example, if you are on your nature walk the sound your feet make on the ground can tell you if the ground is muddy, paved, grassy or icy. Rudolf Steiner says, “The tone reveals the soul of a body… the tone expresses the individual nature and the personal note of a body so that it contributes to the sensation”. Sound can also resonate with our body. Different organs resonate with different sounds and can be used to balance the body. Today, as part of your inner work practice pick a sound and hum it for five minutes. What part of your body do you feel needs balance? Pick your note accordingly. The circulatory system, the gallbladder and muscles resonate with an E note. The adrenals resonate with a B note. The kidney, brain and liver resonate with an E flat. The lungs and stomach resonate with an A note. The intestines, pancreas and fat cells resonate with a C sharp. The bladder, heart and colon resonate with an F note.
Nature Walk Idea (Head): Today we saw a baby owl sitting on a branch. He looked so confused. At one point he was even being dive-bombed by a bird (see video HERE). I also took some video of some of his first sounds. You can watch that video HERE. Owlets usually stay in the nest with mama for about 45-55 days so this little guy most likely left the nest very recently. Around this area it is usually the end of May when the baby owlets are leaving the nest. Once they leave the nest they must learn to find food, shelter and water. They must also learn to fly and to hoot properly. Today’s nature walk assignment is to pretend you are a baby owl and try to see if you can find proper food, shelter and water that would be suitable for your first days on your own.
Photography Notes (Hands): Although the camera I brought with me today was not ideal (I had left the heavy professional camera at home and brought a point-and-shoot that had trouble focusing on the owl) the photos today can still serve as good examples for today’s lesson. Today’s lesson is to be patient and to take the same photo in the same place for 15-30 minutes. As you can see by looking at the three photos the lighting changed over the 30 minutes I was standing there. The lighting was even and dark in some photos. However, in the large photo above the sun finally broke through the tree branches to illuminate the baby owl and create the perfect lighting. It was worth waiting for that perfect lighting. Today’s assignment is to stay in one place for 15-30 minutes and take many photos of the same subject. For the best results do this at sunrise or about and hour before sunset or on a day when the sun is going in and out of the clouds.
