#Earthschooling365: Day Eighty-Four
Inner Work Meditation (Heart): Today we will be meditating on another of our twelve senses – our sense of touch. Our sense of touch goes beyond our ability to tell if something is solid or not solid. Our sense of touch is also what helps us experience the limits we have around us, the relationships around us and much more. We must touch a wide range of things to get a well-rounded experience of touch. Of course one usually prefers to touch only pleasant things like fluffy kittens or a smooth apple. However, it is also healthy to touch unpleasant things like prickly nettles or gritty sand. Having a wide range of touch experiences can help a person be more open to experiences in life in general including relationships with people. What are some ways you can encourage a wide range of touch experiences for yourself and those around you? How about in the classroom (if you are a teacher)? Can you practice more touch on your nature walks?
Steiner says,”The sense of touch is barely connected with the day life of our soul, that is, with the really conscious life of the soul. You can see for yourself that this is true when you consider how easily we can store the impressions of our other senses in our memory and how difficult it is to remember the impressions of the sense of touch.”
Nature Walk Idea (Head): When I take nature walks I always feel very grounded. Nature is so full of rooted things and the trees seem like they will always be there for me as I walk along the path. However, not all things are rooted and stable in nature. Some things are light and airy. The earth itself with its many roots of flowers, trees and bushes is very much of the melancholic temperament. However, many things we see in nature are more sanguine, variable and flighty. In this category today on my walk I saw butterflies, moths, fluff falling from the cottonwood trees, dandelion seeds blown away by the wind and dragonflies starting to buzz around. What airy, sanguine things can you find on your nature walk today?
Photography Notes (Hands): Today’s assignment is to try to capture that sense of the sanguine, the airy, and the variable in your photos. Part of taking a good photo is being able to capture the mood you see or feel around you. For example, if you were at a happy event and wanted to convert happiness you might take pictures of children laughing. However, you might also avoid taking pictures of the child that lost their balloon and started crying. Practice taking photos that convey a mood today. We will focus on the mood of the sanguine today. The mood of the sanguine is light and airy.

Breezes stroke my hair
Butterflies kiss
Soft prairie grasses embrace me in willowy whispers
Creek ripples waltz around my toes
