Joy Cowburn lives in the mountains of North Carolina where she has been an educator for the past 20 years. She has two children, Anna Mae (17) and Caleb (14). When Anna Mae was a baby, Joy taught Kindermusik and she pioneered a Waldorf kindergarten homeschool cooperative when her daughter turned five. Since then, she started a Waldorf preschool, an arts center, and taught at Rainbow Community School and Sacred Mountain Homeschooling Collective. Joy studied Psychology and Dance at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, (1997) and received her teaching certificate in Waldorf Education from Antioch University of New England (NH) in 2014.
Joy most recently was working in a trauma-informed preschool program in Asheville for children at high risk before the advent of Covid-19. With children home from school, she wanted to develop some homeschooling work opportunities for herself and created the Waldorf Edutainment Services channel on YouTube and began talking with Kristie about opportunities with the Earthschooling community. Joy lives in a cove in the mountains surrounded by wilderness and mysteries and enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and caretaking for the land. She also creates music with her partner Scott that is designed to uplift and inspire people for our current times. They have a chihuahua, a black cat, and 6 hens. Joy is delighted to have an outlet for sharing her love of Waldorf and nature-based learning education with the Earthschooling Community!
