A vital component of the human spirit, Adventure, is sadly diminished in this chrome-plated age. An exciting games/sports program can do a lot to mend this. Many sports are adventure- oriented, and each is itself a ‘rite of passage’…This adventure factor is especially present with the many games where the child has to overcome fear of some kind – mostly irrational I might say. Obstacle-course running is an example; often there is a small danger element, but if children overcome this, with gentle encouragement from the class teacher, they grow stronger for life. These ‘dangers’ might include high, deep, wet, or small hazards.
