Tuesday Tip: Judge Yourself Gently

These short thoughts/tips are meant to be a brief and efficient way to offer a quick touch of inspiration for the day.

Judge Yourself Gently

Be careful not to judge others or yourself too harshly. Three years ago I started suffering from debilitating menses that didn’t end (even for one day) for 14 months. It was the worst experience of my life. After following a hormonal balancing routine with natural herbs and therapies I went on to see 4 doctors to get tested.

I tried every remedy from natural to artificial. During 9 months I gained 45 pounds. I worried what people would think of a healthy living consultant that couldn’t even look healthy herself.

What was I doing wrong? I was judging myself harshly.

It was only a year and a half later I finally figured out that the severe bleeding and weight gain were related to my extreme intolerance for gluten & dairy which I had been unaware (of the severity) of. Once I eliminated those my bleeding slowly reduced and then finally stopped.

My weight has started reducing back to my normal. My point is – I was judging myself harshly – when the reasons for my weight gain and feeling unhealthy had nothing to do with anything I was doing wrong. The reasons had to do with an undiagnosed condition which I finally did figure out.

Keep this in mind next time you find yourself judging yourself or someone else harshly for any reason – weight gain, mood swings, lack of energy, lack of motivation or anxiety. They may be struggling with a silent issue and need your support.

And be sure to accept yourself as well – even in the midst of struggle! At every point in your life you deserve to feel beautiful. As I started to heal I didn’t wait until life was “perfect” again to embrace loving myself again. I started having fun with Instagram modeling even at my heaviest weight.

Because we can’t “wait until things are perfect” to be happy because the only guarantee we have is today. So I will embrace and love each day – no matter what – and I hope you will too!
